try it yourself
How heavy is your head?
A head weighs about 10 to 12 pounds when it sits balanced over the shoulders. For every inch it moves forward, that weight effectively multiplies: at a 45-degree angle, a common text-neck position, the neck carries forces equivalent to 50 pounds or more.
Drag the slider (or use the arrow keys) and watch what looking down does.
Small fixes from the article
- Bring the phone to eye level instead of looking down.
- Take a break every 20 to 30 minutes: look away, stretch the neck gently side to side, roll the shoulders back.
- Strengthen neck and shoulder muscles with wall angels, reverse shoulder flys and gentle neck stretches.
- At a desk: feet flat, elbows at 90 degrees, screen at eye level.
0° About 10 to 12 pounds Balanced over the shoulders, the way the neck is built to carry it.
